Who Am I?

I am a native of Indianapolis, IN and a proud product of IPS (School #110 & Tech HS). I furthered my education as a graduate of Ivy Tech (Associates), University of Indianapolis (Bachelor of Science), and Christian Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity and Certificate in Mental Health Counseling). The bulk of my working life has been in public/person-facing service. I have a 40-year career serving in the healthcare industry. I last served (retired) as a Social Worker and Social Work Manager at HealthNet, the largest federally qualified healthcare system in the state of Indiana.

Why I Am Serving in A Political Office?

“I don’t do politics.” This was a statement made by a young man (20ish) at a teaching session on social justice where I was in attendance. His statement GRIEVED me greatly! I am aware there is a lot of apathy among a lot of people as it relates to politics. If we don’t do politics, politics will do us. As such we need, we must be involved. I liken it to paying for an Uber ride and telling the driver your destination only to be taken to where the Uber driver wants to take you. We pay for a service (politics/politician) and generally do not hold our elected officials accountable to listening to and honoring our voices. I want to be a catalyst to educate the voting populace about the importance of not only voting, but holding our elected officials accountable (calling, emailing, etc.).  This is why I am Precinct Chair for Center Township #10.

One of my historical mentors is Rev. Dr. Vernon Johns. He was the predecessor to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. He stated, “If you see a good fight, get in it!” We are in a fight for our democracy, and this is a good fight to engage. Please join me in the fight. Let’s get on the right side of history and create/leave a better world for our children and grandchildren.
